The First Suspicion

Alisha Notices My Texts

We were sitting in the living room when Alisha noticed how often I was texting Sarah.

“Who is she?” she asked, her tone sharp with suspicion.

“A friend,” I replied. “We’ve known each other since high school.”

“Men don’t have female friends,” she shot back.

Our Relationship

Alisha and I had been together for about a year, and I had recently moved in. What she didn’t realise was just how close Sarah and I really were… or how far back our history went.

She also had no idea how wrong she was.

How I Met Sarah

High School Connection

I met Alisha through a dating app after being single for a few years. Things moved quickly between us, and before long, we were building a life together.

But Sarah… Sarah was different.

I had met her in high school. We sat next to each other in history class, working on projects together. She was hilarious, and we clicked instantly. Before long, we were inseparable—always at each other’s houses, our mums even becoming friends.

Family Background

At that time, my parents were separated. My dad lived with his girlfriend, Olivia. She was tall, slender, and effortlessly attractive. She also had a wardrobe full of clothes at his house.

The Moment Everything Changed

Alone at My Dad’s House

One weekend, I was staying at my dad’s house. My dad and Olivia had gone out for the day, leaving me alone.

I remember wandering through the kitchen, picking at leftover chicken from the fridge, before flopping onto the sofa and flicking through channels. Nothing held my attention.

Eventually, I went upstairs to my room. It wasn’t much—just a single bed, a bedside table, and a chest of drawers—but it had my guitar. I picked it up and played for a while, losing myself in the music.

Discovering Olivia’s Dress

But when I stopped, my mind started to wander…

I don’t know what made me do it. Maybe curiosity. Maybe something deeper.

I found myself standing in my dad’s bedroom, staring at a dress Olivia had worn the night before. It hung on the wardrobe door, still holding the faint scent of her perfume.

I hesitated.

I shouldn’t…

But I wanted to.

I went downstairs and locked the front door, just in case. Then I went back upstairs, my heart pounding.

First Time Wearing the Dress

Slowly, I took off my clothes until I was standing there in just my boxers and socks. Then I lifted the dress from the hanger and slipped it over my head.

It didn’t fit properly. It was too long, too loose, and I couldn’t zip it up.

But none of that mattered.

The moment it touched my skin, something shifted. I felt… incredible. Excited. Nervous. Alive.

I walked back and forth across the room, trying to understand what I was feeling. I even danced a little, unable to stop myself smiling.

It felt right.

And that terrified me.

I quickly took it off, carefully hanging it back exactly where I had found it. The last thing I wanted was for Olivia to notice.

Back in my room, I lay on the bed, my head spinning.

Why did I like that?
What does it mean?
Does this make me gay?

None of it made sense.

Telling Sarah the Truth

The next day at school, I found Sarah.

“I need to talk to you,” I told her.

We didn’t share any classes that day, so I had to wait until after school. When the final bell rang, I rushed to the front gates and waited.

When she finally appeared, she ran over, smiling.

“What is it? Tell me! Did you meet a girl at your dad’s?” she teased.

We started walking, and I struggled to find the words.

“Sarah… I tried on Olivia’s dress.”

She stopped.

“You did what?”

“I… liked it,” I admitted. “And now I’m really confused.”

Confession After School

Sarah’s Reaction

For a moment, she just stared at me.

Then her face lit up.

“You’re a girl,” she said, like she’d just solved a puzzle.

“What? No—what do you mean?”

“I always wished you were a girl,” she said, grinning. “Now you actually might be one.”

I didn’t know what to say.

“Come round to my house after dinner,” she added. “We’ll figure it out.”

The Beginning of Something Bigger

Visiting Sarah’s House

That evening, I did exactly that.

After dinner with my mum, I walked to Sarah’s house and knocked on the door. When she opened it, she looked completely different from school—relaxed, confident, excited.

She hugged me and pulled me inside, leading me straight to her room.

It was exactly what you’d expect from a teenage girl—posters on the walls, music everywhere, a dressing table covered in makeup and perfume.

Facing What It Meant

I sat down, facing her.

“So… why am I here?” I asked.

Sarah giggled.

“We’re going to find out,” she said, “what that moment really meant when you put on Olivia’s dress.”
